Course Objectives

From any company or organisation’s perspective there is always a need to manage its public profile. The manner in which a company is perceived is of utmost importance.

Bearing this in mind, public relations is a function that serves to highlight the strengths of a company, minimize its faults and interface with the public about the nature of the business. If you embark on a career in public relations, expect to create glowing communiques, press releases, press packages and interface with internal and external stakeholders of any company or organization.

Another important function of public relations is risk management. If there is any negative press around a company, a public relations officer usually steps in with disaster management strategies. Expect to skill up by identifying and training spokespersons, establishing notification and monitoring systems and engaging in post crisis analysis.

Lyceum’s course content for this qualification has been designed to give you a broad understanding of the principles of public relations, introduce you to an understanding of communications in a business setting and ease you into the processes of financial accounting.

  • A final examination (summative assessment) for each subject.

All assignments for the year must be submitted in order to qualify for the exams.

Please ensure all your assignments are submitted on time.  If you have missed a deadline, you may re-submit at a small cost.

Your final mark for each subject will be calculated as follows:

  • Assignment contributes 20% towards the final mark
  • Examination contributes 80% towards the final mark

If your assignment mark is low:

If you submit an assignment for a specific subject and fail, you do not have to re-submit a further assignment prior to writing the “supplementary” examination.  The assignment mark will automatically be carried over.  However if the assignment mark is low, and you wish to re-do the assignment, you may apply to the examinations section for a copy of the new assignment (at the prescribed fee) and may then re-submit the assignment on or before the new due date.
