Course Prospects

This Short Learning Programme will empower you, as an experienced teacher, to improve your planning, teaching and assessing of the Social Science curriculum at General Education and Training (GET) level.
Many teachers  have received formal accredited training in either History or Geography, and now find themselves teaching an outcomes-based Social Sciences curriculum that combines these two fields. This programme will bridge the gap for such teachers by focusing on issues of conceptual progression, integration, and linking knowledge with your learners’ everyday world.
This Short Learning Programme should be taken together with Understanding Myself in Space and Time, which focuses on subject knowledge in the area of Social Sciences.

Entrance Requirements

You must be competent in English and have

  • Theoretical, academic and practical professional knowledge and understanding at NQF Level 5

Programme Duration

Minimum: 6 months
Maximum: 12 months

Course Contents

  • Designing, planning, implementing and evaluating a Social Sciences programme for a GET classroom.
  • Professional skills and judgement needed by Social Sciences specialists.
  • Critical analysis of the theoretical underpinnings of Social Sciences
  • Contemporary trends in the subject area of the Social Sciences

Assessment

Formative: You will be required to submit two assignments.
Summative: You will be required to write one examination.
