How to Enrol

This section explains the different processes for prospective students and for current students that want to register for second or third year studies or further studies in new learning programmes at Lyceum.

Prospective students
Prospective students are students who intend to enter Lyceum in the near future. The information below will help you to enrol onto one of our learning programmes.
Please read our terms and conditions and consider the following before you proceed with the enrolment process:

Am I eligible to study at Lyceum?
Can I get credit for prior study?
How much does it cost?
Is there any financial assistance available?
How do I enrol?

Am I eligible to study at Lyceum?
Lyceum offers accredited higher education qualifications:

  • The minimum requirement for admission to most of our Certificate programmes is a Grade 12 Certificate (or Senior Certificate), or an equivalent qualification.
  • The minimum requirement for admission to our Diploma programmes is a Grade 12 Certificate (or Senior Certificate), with at least 5 subjects passed on SG or HG.

Each learning programme does however have specific admission criteria and you must consult the admission criteria for the programme that you wish to enrol for, to ensure that you meet the specific minimum admission criteria.
There are also specific criteria for admission to the learning programmes offered in our School for Educators.

We are able to accept prospective students that have not completed their Senior Certificate by granting age exemption (if you are older than 45) or by recognition of prior learning (RPL).

RPL is a way to recognise skills acquired through the journey of life. People gain skills and competencies in various ways, i.e. short courses, on-the-job training, personal interests that require research. Your application will be directed to the relevant Academic Head for approval. Prospective students that did not complete their schooling in South Africa may also apply on the basis of equivalency to the Grade 12 (or Senior Certificate) as determined by HESA.

Can I get credit for prior study?
You may qualify for subject credits (up to 50% of the learning programme) in instances where subjects were completed at recognised higher education institutions and with the provision that:

  • the subject was completed within the past 3 years,
  • the outcomes of the subject matches the outcome of the subject for which credit is sought,
  • the subject was passed at the same NQF level than the i\one that you are seeking credit for, and
  • a statement of results indicating that the subject was passed at the institution accompanies the application for subject credit .

How much does it cost?
The fees for each learning programme can be found by following this link.

Select the School, the learning programme, whether the full programme or only some subject enrolments are applicable and select your electives. The total fee will be calculated. If you require an invoice to apply for financial assistance from a sponsor, bank or your employer, you can print out a pro-forma invoice.

Please note that the learning programme fees do not include examination registration fees, which are payable as and when you register for examination.

We offer discounts to students enrolling online, or to organisations enrolling more than 20 students. We also offer rewards to participating reward scheme programmes. Click here to view a list of participants.

Is there any financial assistance available?
Lyceum does not currently offer any bursaries. If you cannot afford the full payment, you may apply for a loan from Real People (a micro finance provider), or alternatively you may want to approach your bank for a study loan If you require an invoice to apply for financial assistance from a sponsor, bank or your employer, you can print out a pro-forma invoice.

How do I enrol?
At this stage you should be confident that you meet the admission criteria for your selected learning programme and you should have read our Terms and Conditions. You also should have made a decision about the payment of your programme fee (e.g. will you or your sponsor pay cash, make an electronic bank transfer, or pay by credit card). Alternatively, if you are employed, your employer may be paying for your studies or you may want to make use of Real People to finance your studies.

You will need the following documents:

  • A certified copy of your Identity Document;
  • A certified copy of your Grade 12 Certificate (or Senior Certificate), or equivalent qualification;
  • A certified copy of previous qualifications or statement of results in the event of subject credit requests. Click here to download the application for subject credits form.
  • A letter from the employer if the employer is responsible for payment of the fees;
  • A completed Real People finance application form, if you have decided to finance your studies through them. You will find the finance application form at the end of the online enrolment process.

Please note that we cannot process your application without the certified copies of your Identity document and qualifications. If you do not have a copy of your Grade 12 or Senior Certificate please click here to apply for a copy of your results from HESA.
